When Arnold Palmer died in September, the following days were filled with stories of how 'The King' would regularly write to fans from all around the world.

It looks like Rory McIlroy has taken up that mantle in writing to fans of all ages. ESPN's Senior Golf Writer Jason Sobel released a picture yesterday of a letter the four-time major winner wrote to the nephew of one of Sobel's friends.

In writing to Brady, McIlroy congratulates him on catching a ball he threw into the crowd at East Lake in The Tour Championship. McIlroy went on to win that tournament, which also won him the FedEx Cup.

It's the final paragraph, which shows how inspiring McIlroy can be to younger generations. He encourages Brady to the the best he can, whether it's at sport or in school.

"I hope the ball and this short letter remind you that I have always wanted young people to do well in life. It may be at school, playing sport or even just being with your family, but doing you best is really what's most important."

The letter shows a side to McIlroy that's rarely seen, and is surely a letter the boy will treasure for a long time to come.
