Rory McIlroy will have to produce some of his best form if he is to make the cut at this year's US Open in Oakmont after carding a seven-over-par opening round.
Weather conditions meant that the Holywood golfer was forced to finish his opening round early this morning and having carried a four-over-par, he finished with three consecutive boegys to leave him with a mountain to climb to make the weekend's play. He's 11 shots off the pace.
Shane Lowry is the best of the Irish after a wonderful finish today. The Clara native carried an even-par score into today's play and picked up two birdies to leave him two shots of the leader Andrew Landry.
