Rory McIlroy says today's closing stages of the Irish Open were as high pressure as he has experienced in his career.

He won the tournament today for the first time, triumphing by three shots with brilliant efforts on the 16th and 18th.

The four-time major winner has been in high-pressure situations today but was taken aback by today's closing stages.

"I've won on the world's biggest stages but I don't think I've ever felt pressure like I've felt there today. I was trying so hard because you only come home once every year to play in front of your home fans," he told Nick Dye of the European Tour.

"I felt like it was slipping away a bit on the back nine but that finish I'll remember for the rest of my life."

He added that "to win your home is very special and to do it in that style ... hopefully I get to experience it again. If not, I'm really going to savour this one."
