Rory McIlroy moved to one-under overall at the Players' Championship, after carding a one-under 71 in the third round.
The four-time major winner made a strong start to the day, with a birdie on the first hole. But after parring the next three holes, his momentum took a hit with a bogey on the fifth.
He recovered somewhat with a second birdie on the ninth, but failed to build on that as he parred the first four holes on the back nine. A bogey on the 14th was followed by consecutive birdies, before he closed out the day with one more bogey.
McIlory is playing with a back injury, which has been bothering him this week. He is preparing to undergo a scan next week to asses the damage, having just made a return to competitive action from his honeymoon with wife Erica Stoll.
Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell had a third round to forget. He hit three birdies throughout the day. But two bogeys on the front nine, followed by another on the 14th and a double bogey at the end, left him with a disappointing two-over 74.
