There's no better way to endear yourself to your club's fans than insulting a derby rival. Well apart from scoring goals against them or generally performing with a modicum of effort.
Anyway, Roma's new signing Michel Bastos (apparently unwittingly) used his official introduction to the club's fans to mock Lazio in colourful language.
During half-time of last night's Coppa Italia win over Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico, the Brazilian winger brandished a scarf thrown to him by fans which read "Lazio Merda" or "Lazio S***" to English-speakers.
Roma have had to apologize for the incident, claiming that Bastos did not see what was emblazoned across the scarf.
That's the same defence used by Arsenal's Santi Cazorla recently after he and former Gunners great Robert Pires were pictured holding a sheet which also used the "S" word to insult rivals Tottenham...
