Robbie Rogers became the first only gay man to play in a major US sports league last night when he came on as a 77th minute substitute for LA Galaxy, in their 4-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.
Rogers had previously retired from the game, following his release by Leeds United. In the wake of his retirement he announced he was gay, and soon after spoke in an interview of his decision to not play football following the announcement.
Rogers returned to the game however when he signed with the LA Galaxy last week. He made his debut last night; ear to ear grin upon entrance included.
Robbie Keane scored a hat-trick for the Galaxy in last night’s game.
