Ireland's Nicolas Roche missed out on what would have been a spectacular stage victory today at the Tour de France.

Roche made a break for a solo win inside the final 45 kilometres of Stage 11, but he was caught by a chasing group on the final climb of the afternoon.

Instead, the stage was won by French rider Tony Gallopin, who made a late break for victory to just finish ahead of the peleton.
