The identity of the 2014 Wimbledon women's finalists are now clear!

After fighting through a first set tie break Lucie Safarova lost to her close friend, Petra Kvitova 6(6)-7(8), 1-6. Both Czechs walked on to the court as comrades, not opponents playing in the semi final of Wimbledon. The first set was competitive and looked to be anyone’s game but Kvitova controlled the second set of the match, dropping only one set and winning in 29 short minutes.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard defeated the No. 3 seed Simona Halep in straight sets at 7(7)-6(5), 6-2.

Bouchard’s flat forehand prevailed on these grass courts and earned her 20 winners on the court. Simona Halep hit 13 winners in this match but lost control in the second set as Bouchard won the first four games. At just 20 years old, Bouchard is safely into the final to face former champion, Petra Kvitova.

Kvitova knows what it takes to win at SW19 as she defeated Maria Sharapova to win her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2011. Kvitova won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 as the eighth seed. This will be the first time Bouchard has reached a Grand Slam final in her career. But it will still be a fascinating encounter.
