The International Boxing Association is understood to be pursuing disciplinary action against the referees and judges who were dismissed from the Rio Olympics, according to reports.

The AIBA is quoted in the Independent.ie to have said that 'individuals and associated federations have been forwarded to the disciplinary commission for further investigation, with appropriate actions to follow.'

A number of referees and judges were sent home from the Games after they were adjudged to have failed in meeting the officiating standards set by the AIBA.

Following a review of the Olympic boxing tournament this week, AIBA commissions reportedly highlighted decisions made in some of the fights and have discussed the possibility of introducing a five-judge scoring system.

They are also said to be considering a review of the certification process for referees and judges. After the meeting, the association also stated that officials must conduct their job with, "respect, fairness, integrity and transparency."

Various contentious decisions emerged from the Rio Olympics, some of which directly implicated Team Ireland.

Several commentators felt Katie Taylor was the winner in her bout while Michael Conlan's defeat to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin was greeted with outrage. Elsewhere, the Heavyweight final also sparked consternation when Russian Evegny Tischenko was declared the winner over Kazakhstan fighter Vassily Levit.
