La Liga team Real Sociedad have given a job to a homeless man who was sleeping rough outside the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastián.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the 35-year-old man, named only as Rubén, had been sleeping in the doorway of one of the entrances to the stadium, with his dog Mundo.

He has been given a two-month contract with the club, with the prospect for further employment if he impresses with the stadium maintenance unit. Rubén had been sleeping in and around the stadium for eight months.

Under manager Eusebio Sacristan, the Basque side are currently in seventh place in La Liga, just two points outside the European spots.

Rubén's first match working in the Anoeta will come next month, when Sociedad welcome Atlético Madrid to the stadium.

In a world where major football clubs seem out of touch with the local public, Rubén and Mundo's story is a reminder that a team and the community it represents can still be as one.
