Like Ireland, the Serbian national football team will be spending the summer at home following their failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

But at 29th in the FIFA World Rankings, they are far ahead of the Boys in Green - on paper at least.

The last two meeting between the nations have ended in draws, the first being a 1 - 1 draw at Croke Park in 2008, followed by a 0 - 0 stalemate in Belgrade in 2012.

Two years on, what can we expect from the Balkan nation?

Manager & formation

After their failure to qualify for the World Cup, Serbia sacked manager Sinisa Mihajlovic  and have temporarily replaced him with caretaker Ljubinko Drulovic who led Serbia to the European U19 Championship in 2013.

Like Mihajlovic, Drulovic is likely to go for a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Players to watch

Unless Serbia experiment greatly, expect a strong back four which includes Chelsea right back Branislav Ivanovic who started the November friendly against Russia at centre-back, alongside Milan Bisevac of Lyon who will stand in for injured Manchester City defender Matija  Nastasic.

His City team-mate Aleksanadar Kolarov will occupy the left-back spot with Real Valladolid's Antonio Rukavina primed to play on the right.

New Chelsea signing Nemanja Matic has done well thus far for the Blues and his passing range and box to box qualities will be useful in one of the two roles in front of the back four.

CSKA Moscow winger Zoran Tosic, who spent a season at Man United four years ago, usually holds down the left flank position, while Miralem Sulejmani of Benfica could be given a run out on the right at some point.

One of their most talented players is Adem Ljajic of Roma who had been frozen out under Mihajlovic since 2012 because he did not sing the national anthem. However, Drulovic has opted to bring back a player who has five goals and five assists in Serie A this season back.

Nantes striker Filip Djordjevic is likely to lead the line. The 6 foot 1 forward has a decent recent goal record this season with 11 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.

Recent form

Serbia are unbeaten in five matches and have won three of those games. Their last defeat came in a friendly against Colombia in August.
