For a long time, six goals was often the mark set by the World Cup Golden Boot winner.
That was until the Brazilian Ronaldo blew everyone out of the water in 2002 by netting eight goals on the way to the trophy.
But ever since then, five goals has proven to be the high point. Miroslav Klose found the net five times in 2006, while last time out four players finished on five goals (Thomas Muller, Diego Forlan, David Villa and Wesley Sneijder).
Interestingly only half of those players were central striker.
Changes in team structures mean the traditional striker's role has changed and often times we see goals coming from wide forwards rather than central predators.
That makes this year's Golden Boot winner harder to predict. On Team 33, we had a go at predicting who we thought would finish as top scorer. I went for Spain's Pedro and our host Richard Chambers went for the now-injured Marco Reus of Germany.
I have put some obvious choices in the poll based on Ladbrokes betting odds, but because of the unpredictable nature of the Golden Boot, you can also fill in your own choice.
