In the era of False 9s, lone centre-forwards and Rooney-like square pegs in round holes, the front two has lost its place in elite football's echelons - bar a few exceptions.

So, I chose the classic little and large combo of Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips at Sunderland with a few stats to back-up how well they linked up in the 1999-00 season, while Joe Coffey explains why Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry partnership worked so well.

Adrian Collins and Killian Woods were also in this week's panel and they went for classic La Liga duos: Raul and Morientes (Real Madrid), and Nihat and Darko Kovacevic (Real Sociedad) with stats to back those up.

You can listen back to our look-back at classic strike partnerships from the Premier League and beyond via the podcast player:

But we'd love to know which Premier League front twos remains top of the podium in your memory. Let us know in our poll below and you can also tweet us Youtube clips of your favourite strike partnerships in action.
