Police were called to break up violent skirmishes which erupted between French, Northern Ireland and Poland fans in Nice last night.

The Telegraph reports that the French fans were the chief agitators who set upon the Northern Ireland and Poland supporters after throwing bottles at them outside a cafe.

Seven people are reported to have been injured as a result of the clashes, with one person suffering a serious head injury. This fresh instalment of violence comes just one day after violent scenes were reported in Marseille.

The Northern Ireland and Poland followers were said to be socialising peacefully before the attacks occurred. Fighting ensued with over 100 people said to have been involved at one point.

Video footage shows tables and chairs being thrown and police say a shop window was smashed.

Nothern Ireland Poland will meet in their Euro 2016 opener today.
