Michel Platini's lawyer claims that FIFA's ethics committee is totally lacking in credibility.

The committee is recommending a lifetime ban for the suspended UEFA president, but Platini says that he had a verbal contract with Sepp Blatter to receive a €1.8 million payment in 2011.

Platini faces a hearing before FIFA ethics judge Joachim Eckert next month as he attempts to overturn the charges in time to contest next year's FIFA presidential elections.

Platini's lawyer claims there isn't "a single tangible element" that can prove the Frenchman is guilty of any wrongdoing and has described the recommendations of the ethics committee as "excessive" and a "scandal".

"This ban is subject to corruption being proved but it is clearly a disproportionate punishment," he told The Press Association.
