For our much, much younger listeners, there used to be a time before computers and games consoles dictated how we enjoyed football when it was raining heavily outside - as it tends to do in this country!

Fortunately when Team 33 were young lads, football board games were the be all and end all.

By the power of radio, we were able to look back on some of the games we enjoyed most in our formative years and you can listen in to that segment below (from the 44 minutes 30 seconds mark):

But as I promised on the podcast, there will be a few pictures just to make you more nostalgic than you need to be.

Let's start off with the most well known football board game of them all ...

Subbuteo

As Richard explains on the podcast, Italy and Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon is a huge fan of one of the most iconic games of them all. But it's the extent of his grá for it which is surprising.

Here's an old AC Milan team in Subbuteo form. Take note of the revolutionary 5-5-0 formation below ...

Super Striker

One childhood Christmas saw the 1999 edition of this 5-a-side game turn up in my house. Just to be clear, I have never had a haircut similar to the lads on the box cover.

Tomy Super Cup Football

The sound effects of this game are one thing worth listening to on the podcast as Joe reminded us how it works, but as you can see below, there may be a streaker on the pitch:

Wembley

If you wanted to win the FA Cup without putting on a pair of football boots, then this one was for you ...

Subbuteo trading cards

After we did our recent interview with ex-Liverpool hardman Neil Ruddock, I did a bit of hunting around my house and found this old card which also doubled up as part of a board game ... except you had to make the board yourself!

Of course, this is only a drop in the ocean when it comes to football board games. If you want to remind us of games that we should have covered, you can send us in pictures or game names via our Twitter page or our Facebook page.
