Gareth Bale is the PFA player of the year, Liverpool found their scoring touch without Luis Suarez, Chelsea hold the advantage in the race for the Champions League qualification and QPR and Reading now face the pain of relegation.

Phil Thompson spoke with Newstalk Breakfast’s Oisin Langan this morning about a busy, eventful weekend in the Premier League. Phil felt Bale “has been quite sensational this season”, but wondered if perhaps Luis Suarez wasn’t the better player of the course of the entire season.

With Liverpool’s 6-0 win at St. James’s Park still fresh in the mind Thompson laments the fact that Liverpool lack the consistency to play that way every week, and told Oisin how important it is that Brendan Rodgers can ensure that consistency is present next year.

“It was the coming together of the players to show that they can do it without Luis Suarez,” Thompson said.
“We needed consistency, we had to be better.

“You just don’t know which team is going to turn up, and that is what Brendan Rodgers has to rectify,” he added.
