By the admission of Russia's players, manager and fans, Euro 2016 was a disaster.

Aside from a 1-1 draw against England when they should have been more than 1-0 down, Russia lost 2-1 to Slovakia and were then humiliated 3-0 by Wales in the group stage as they exited the competition.

The behaviour of a cohort of ultra supporters also brought negative headlines for the Russian federation.

But all that aside, the nation should now be thinking of it's sizeable task of building a side capable of putting in a respectable performance when they host the 2018 World Cup.

Instead, an angry Russian fan has launched a petition to have the national team disbanded. And what's more, it has received over 800,000 signatures.

The petition started by Artyom Khasanov was addressed to President Vladimir Putin and aims to have a new crop of players called up to replace the current incumbents.

"The team’s funding should be spent on building football pitches and nurturing the next generation. We have been waiting for a miracle like children at Christmas, but we have not seen one in ten years," says Khasanov via the petition.
