Former Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer has returned home after his six month contract with the Worcester Warriors expired.

The Aviva Premiership side decided not to extend the veteran number nine's deal after making only six appearances for the side this season. 

Springbok Francois Hougaard is currently the club's first choice scrum-half and with Michael Dowsett and Luke Baldwin also competing with the South African - Stringer has been apparently deemed surplus to requirements.

It's unclear whether he will continue in the game but speaking to the Worcester News earlier this summer, the former Munster player had no plans to retire any time soon, saying: "That’s why I made the decisions in my life to make sure I would last as long as possible in everything I do.

"Sometimes things are taken out of your hands, like with contracts, but for as long as I can play at the top level I think I will (continue) and look to be involved in these big competitions and with these big clubs."

The club also confirmed that Christian Scotland-Williamson is heading to America to play in the NFL.
