Lions captain Peter O'Mahony is already looking forward to next week after his side came up short in the first test against New Zealand.

A frantic first half saw the host burst into a 10-3 lead when Cody Taylor scored out wide before the Lions scored one of the greatest tries witnessed in recent memory.

Liam Williams picked up the ball deep in his own 22 and attacked. He broke up field and interlinked with Conor Murray and Jonathan Davies before Sean O'Brien burst over from close range. Farrell missed the conversion and the hosts took a 13-8 lead into the break.

New Zealand dominated the second half and a double from Rieko Ioane saw them rewarded for their superior display.

Speaking afterwards, O'Mahony said: "Our discipline wasn't probably where it was at. We conceded double-figure penalties which we struggled with.

"Look, there's a huge amount to play for next week. We've got to recover and regroup and have a good look at that (the game) and move on now."
