As the English football season creeps towards a close, the blue half of Manchester still have their historic quadruple hopes alive. However, Graham Hunter doesn’t think Pep Guardiola and his troops can pull off the historic four trophy haul.

Speaking on Monday’s OTB AM, Hunter explained that he didn’t think Manchester City would be able to lift both the Premier League and Champions League by the end of this season.

Conceding that Pep Guardiola does thrive under pressure, history shows that "he is not inhuman" and that there has been moments in his career when he has burnt out before.

Hunter continued that all the Man City players will know that with Guardiola at the helm there really "are four trophies within touching distance" and that "the atmosphere [in the camp] is good," however there still are a number of challenges ahead.

In Hunter’s opinion, any potential stumbling blocks will come from City’s difficult Premier League run-in and the fact that their squad is not superior to other teams still in contention for the Champions League.

"Squad wise I still have my doubts," Hunter explained. "Genuinely I don't think City are ahead of the pack in the Champions League and I have tipped Liverpool to win the title. Between the title and the premier league, I think one of those will stop the quadruple."

Manchester City’s next three Premier League games include away trips to both Crystal Palace and Manchester United as well as a home game against Tottenham, a series that Hunter believes will see them dropping points.

Liverpool in comparison have an easier conclusion to the season with the toughest tests being home games against Maurizio Sarri’s struggling Chelsea and Wolverhampton.

However, it is impossible to totally write off any Guardiola team and Hunter admitted that "if they give elite performances day in day out, not match in match out, then they might have a historic four trophy haul."
