Juan Mata is likely to make his Manchester United debut against West Brom tomorrow.

But how will David Moyes accommodate the Spaniard in his favoured No 10 role in the long-term when Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj all share the field together?

Tonight, we were joined by Pat Nevin to talk Mata, Steven Gerrard and shirt numbers.

After looking a the potential benefits and pitfalls of a Christmas tree formation or putting Mata out wide, Nevin tipped a fluid system as a good way to fit Mata in centrally alongside his aforementioned team-mates.

"It's looking into the past a little bit with the Xavi, Iniesta and Messi way as a three behind the striker. None of them were thought of as right, left or central. They changed all the time wherever they found themselves. So you've got a 10 for 10 minutes and someone else a little bit wider for those minutes," said Nevin.

"As long as those players are intelligent players and their adaptable to change their positions, everyone gets that opportunity in that No 10 position. It's quite a tiki taka way to do it. That's not really fashionable at the top level anymore."

Joe Molloy asked Nevin about Steven Gerrard's problems in a deep-lying role where his "Hollywood pass" style is less potent.

"He's intelligent. He can play that position," said Nevin. "But he cannot do that rampaging running every single week. Some weeks he can do it and it looks fantastic and you watch him other weeks and he looks knackered and people are running away from him. Steven Gerrard has to understand the timing of when to do it."
