Things are going from bad to worse for Manchester United and David Moyes as they were dumped out of the FA Cup third round at home to Swansea yesterday.
Added to poor league form and a relatively weak squad, the pressure is building for club and manager.
But ex-Chelsea and Everton man Pat Nevin told us that Moyes is not totally at fault for the "concerning" predicament United find themselves in.
"It's not his players and it's not his team. Of course that's neither here nor there because you have to take over what you've got. There are some decent players there but without Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Carrick, Ferdinand or Giggs...that's the core of the team ripped out."
Although Nevin does not think Alex Ferguson's presence at United matches will overly-concern Moyes, he does believe that it would not harm Moyes if the ex-manager stayed away for a couple of games to stop the cameras panning to him.
Meanwhile, referee Mark Clattenburg was in the spotlight last week after he allegedly "insulted" Southampton captain Adam Lallana. Clattenburg reportedly told Lallana, "You’re very different now since you played for England. You never used to be like this."
Nevin revealed that referees also had a few words for him during his playing career, including one official who made a snide remark towards him:
"It's happened to me a few times. I remember one referee when I was playing at Tranmere and he came over to me and said 'You've fallen a long way haven't you!' I was furious at the time and then I thought 'Do not let that bother you.'"
Nevin also touched on the injury blow for Arsenal's Theo Walcott. The forward will miss the rest of the season as well as the World Cup and Nevin believes he will be a "massive miss" even more so as a striker.
