Earlier today, GAA refereeing chief Pat McEnaney told the Irish Examiner that more deliberate pull-downs could have been punished with a black card.

McEnaney joined us on the line and holds fast to the belief that the black cards has brought far more positives than negatives, including the reduction in body-checking.

But he reiterated his point that there is room for improvement and that refs must get it right at the top level in order for the interpretation of the rules to trickle down correctly to all levels of the game.

"I'm very clear about deliberate pull-downs. There's some, at the level that we operate at, it's disappointing that on some we haven't adjudicated correctly and we need to get it right because the club referees take their lead from the leading referees." 

McEnaney said there were about seven or eight deliberate pull-downs that should have been punished with black cards.
