The silly season is in full swing and if rumours are to be believed Arsene Wenger might be back in for Gonzalo Higuain. Over the weekend it had been rumored that Napoli had agreed a £30 million fee with Real Madrid for the Argentine.

But according to The Mirror and The Sun Higuain is stalling on the deal and wants 48 hours to think things through, which potentially gives Arsenal a chance to hijack the move, even though they have been bidding for £40 million-rated Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

But the Daily Mail says Real manager Carlo Ancelotti intends to keep Higuain, who scored in a 6 - 0 friendly win over Bournemouth yesterday.

Cristiano Ronaldo also found the net and The Sun quoted Ancelotti as saying that there is no chance that the Portuguese winger will return to Old Trafford this summer.

Meanwhile, The Mirror claims that Chelsea are confident that Wayne Rooney will not play another competitive match for Man United.

They are confident that they will push through a £30 million move by the end of the transfer window.

James McCarthy's future could be at Tottenham according to The Mirror with Spurs said to be preparing a player plus cash deal worth £20 million for the Ireland midfielder.

One former Spurs man is said to be on the move to Fulham. According to the Daily Mail, Darren Bent will snub Newcastle in favour of Fulham when he exits Aston Villa.
