Former Ireland defender Paddy Mulligan believes it is encouraging to see ex-Dundalk midfielder Richie Towell getting some game-time for his new club Brighton.

The former League of Ireland goalscoring midfielder was pitched into FA Cup action by manager Chris Hughton in the third round tie at Hull City on Monday.

With Brighton in poor form, Paddy believes it provides an opportunity for Towell.

"Long may that continue. With a little bit of luck now, he'll continue in the team because Brighton are on a very sticky wicket at this moment in time," Paddy said on the Rewind as Brighton struggle for form.

"So if Richie Towell can get himself into a position there and obviously there's no question about the fitness levels because he's played the 90 minutes. So it's a reasonable start for Richie Towell."
