The two-time Olympic bronze medalist made light work of Kenya's Simon Nzoiki, winning their last-16 flyweight clash with a first-round knock-out.

There was just over a minute gone in the first round when Barnes caught his opponent with a powerful left-hook to the body. The punch sent Nzoiki to the canvas and the referee quickly stepped-in to stop the contest.

Earlier, there were mixed fortunes for the other two Irish boxers in action today. Joe Ward also joined Barnes, Michael Conlan, Jason Quigley and Tommy McCarthy in the quarter-finals, but Sean McComb lost his last-16 contest against Elvin Isayev to a split decision.
