Mrs Browns Boys has come out on top of the Christmas Day viewing figures in Ireland, for the fourth year in a row. The Christmas Special drew in more than 700,000 viewers on Christmas night.

The news caps a spectacular year for the show, with the Christmas Special also having once again finished top of the UK ratings on Christmas Day, with over seven million tuning in, and as the highest grossing film in Irish cinemas this year.

While RTE dominated the market share in most areas, TV3’s biggest hits of the day were its soaps, with Coronation Street the second most popular show, with 376,000 tuning in, while Emmerdale also made the top 10.

The most watched movie on the 25th of December was Argo, which pulled in more than 335,000 viewers.

Christmas Day remains one of the biggest TV days of the year, and with Irish people watching on average four hours and 39 minutes of TV on Christmas Day it remains a central part of the day.
