There were two Oscars on the pitch during Brazil's opening match against Croatia.

On one hand there was the Chelsea playmaker who was one of the star performers during the match, while the other Oscar was awarded to Fred for his theatrics in winning the decisive penalties.

But since that opening match the real Oscar has been relatively peripheral, especially as Neymar was handed a more central role on the pitch.

This week, his club manager Jose Mourinho claimed that Oscar has been played out of position by Big Phil Scolari and should be played in the middle. However, with Neymar ruled out, Oscar may return to a more central position.

Meanwhile, Germany's own playmaker Mesut Ozil has been playing wider than he would normally care for, only shining sporadically.

But what do the Squawka stats say about both players ahead of tonight's semi-final?

Defensively, it turns out Oscar is a great asset for Brazil, having had more tackles than any other player (20) at the tournament.

He has also creates seven chances in five games, which is signifcantly lower than Ozil who has created almost double that number with 13.

Ozil's pass accuracy (83 per cent) is far superior to Oscar's (74 per cent) but one must take into account the different emphases and philosophies of Germany and Brazil, something also reflected in both players' average pass lengths.

However unlike Oscar, who will put in a shift in defensively, Ozil has tended to shy away from getting involved in challenges.

But judging from Brazil's battle against Colombia, Ozil will need to be more combative.
