Martin O'Neill has refused to concede defeat in the Republic of Ireland's quest for European Championship qualification.

His side remain fourth in group D, and five points adrift of leaders Poland following last evening's 1-1 draw with Scotland at the Aviva.

Next up for the Boys in Green is a September double-header away to Gibraltar and at home to Georgia with six points from six the imperative and O'Neill believes there is still a place in France for his charges.

Speaking to the press after the game, O'Neill talked up Ireland's chances.

"Naturally, the advantage is to Scotland because the status quo remains. They must be delighted to get away with something in the game. But having said that, we are still well in the group and this is not just fighting, bravado talk. The two games in September, we're going to take those and see where that leads us by the time we get to the Germany game," he said.  

Answering a question from Off The Ball's Adrian Barry about the nature of the Scotland equaliser which came shortly after half-time, O'Neill also took a portion of the responsibility for that.

"Of course, it's your responsibility. The minute you become the manager of a football club, it's your responsibility, absolutely and from kick off we hadn't closed down and of course I take responsibility," he replied.
