The sadness of Brazil fans was palpable in the wake of their 7-1 defeat on home soil at the hands of Germany last summer.

One of the lasting images from that World Cup was the photo of Brazil fan Clovis Acosta Fernandes clutching his replica trophy with tears in his eyes as he reacted to defeat.

Today the sad news emerged that the 60-year-old, who was pictured at every World Cup since 1990, has passed away.

Reports in Brazil state that he passed away following a nine-year battle with cancer.
