David Moyes is still talking up Manchester United's chances of making a late charge for the Premier League title.
But as Pat Nevin told Off The Ball tonight, Alex Ferguson's successor should be more worried about getting into the Top Four after a second home defeat in succession on Saturday.
The Reds are seven points off fourth place at the moment and with their inconsistent form, the final Champions League place is not guaranteed.
"I think it's really hard to catch Arsenal. I suspect that Chelsea will only get better. I can't see them catching Man City. So in a way there's only one place to aim for. If you're a United fan you better wish that Everton and Liverpool don't keep up their runs because they'll be difficult to catch. United will have to get the best out of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney week in and week out," said Nevin who thinks Man United must buy in January even if they have to pay over the odds.
The ex-Chelsea and Everton man also spoke of the scent of fear that could be filling opposition nostrils at Old Trafford.
"There is a fearlessness from teams going to Man United. They are also a weaker side at the moment. That gives you a great opportunity to make a name for yourself.
"Sometimes you'll be halfway through a game and you'll sense that belief that isn't there from the looks on players' faces. Good players pick up on that very quickly."
Deulofeu and Barkley are becoming increasingly central to Everton's plans this season
Nevin also assessed the development of Everton's young guns Ross Barkley and the on-loan Gerard Deulofeu.
Deulofeu notched the late equalizer against Arsenal yesterday, while Barkley was an impressive figure between Arsenal's midfield and defence.
Nevin touched on Deulofeu's rawness before analyzing his dribbling.
"He can take players on, he can change the game but he'll make a lot of mistakes because he hasn't got all the game experience. But I'm glad that Roberto Martinez does not care about that.
"He goes by people with a simple shimmy and there's nothing much to it. There's a little drop of the shoulder and because he has great balance and technique with his feet he goes past people without looking like he is doing much," said Nevin.
He also believes Barkley should be in the England squad for the World Cup, although he feels the academy product's main weakness remains his final ball.
