Aogán Ó Fearghail is the new President-elect of the GAA. The Cavan nominee has been chosen as the successor to Liam O'Neill in a year's time, when he will become the 38th President of the Association.

Ó Fearghail was a comfortable winner with 170 votes ahead of Wexford's Seamus Howlin with 83, and 57 votes for Sean Walsh of Kerry.

The school priincipal has previously served as Ulster Council President and becomes the first Ulsterman to occupy the role of President of the GAA since Sean McCague of Monaghan’s term between 2000 and 2003.

The Drumgoon Eire Og man will serve as President-elect for one year before taking over from Liam O’Neill in 2015.

The President-elect told the BBC his focus will be on “the four F’s” during his tenure.

"I would have at the core of everything I stand for the four F's of finance, fixtures, facilities and family, and they are interchangeable," he said prior to his election.

"We are a games organisation and we must always have games and lots of games.

"In anything you do in life you remain firmly focused on your core beliefs and what you're about, and we're about games.

"We're about football and hurling and camogie and handball and many many other things, but I would bring a firm focus about what we do as a games organisation,” Farrell said.

Earlier, it was announced that the so-called "Anthony Nash" motion had been withdrawn from tomorrow's programme. The GAA's Central Council says it will provide an interpretation of the existing rule in due course.
