Kevin Doyle has been omitted from Martin O’Neill’s 27-man squad for their upcoming friendly against England and their crunch European Championship qualifier against closest rivals, Scotland.

Doyle, who is attempting to reboot his career at MLS side Colorado Rapids, missed the cut in favour of Stoke’s Jon Walters, one-cap David McGoldrick and in-form Daryl Murphy.

Robbie Keane will be given a chance to prove his fitness before Ireland take on England on 7 June.

Simon Cox and Adam Rooney also miss out on a spot, with O’Neill opting for experience in his attacking options.
