The European Tour have confirmed that Rory McIlroy's MRI scan showed no new injury after he complained of discomfort during last weekend's Players Championship at Sawgrass.

It was the Northern Irishman's first tournament back after taking time off to get married and go on his honeymoon.

The Players was also his first outing with his new TaylorMade clubs after signing a multi-million dollar deal recently.

While not playing spectacularly, the Hollywood native eventually posted two-over for the tournament for a tie of 35th place.

South Korea's Kim Si-woo eventually won on 10-under par - three shots clear of the field.

The four-time major winner injured a rib in South Africa in January and missed seven weeks of action.

He will decide shortly on whether to play at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth later this month.

McIlroy hasn't won a major since his 2014 win at the PGA Championship at Valhalla and will be looking to pick up momentum with the US Open at Erin Hills in June fast approaching.
