It's safe to say that there won't be any facility fuelled departures from this international soccer tournament.

Even after 14 years, any whispers of the word Saipan drag up unsettling memories of a summer when the country was divided into two camps - McCarthy or Keane. The team captain left the World Cup on account of the substandard facilities presented to the team.

In his first autobiography, Keane wrote that the team were expected to train on ground that was practically gravel and that they trained in the heavy team gear they wore around the hotel.

But at Euro 2016 in France, those mistakes appear to have been eradicated.

Speaking at a press conference today, Keane paid tribute to all the officials in France who have ensured that their arrival has been enjoyable:

"Absolutely brilliant, credit to everyone here - the set-up here, the training pitch, the facilities, the hotel - we really couldn't ask for anymore. The FAI have been brilliant, no doubt lessons have been learnt so it's fantastic."

In trying to find any flaws to mention, Keane pointed out that his bed is 'too soft.'

"It's great having all these facilities available to the players, but ultimately, it's about what we do on Monday. Obviously the big question the players have to deal with now is if they've made the team."
