During his career, Nicolas Anelka gained a reputation for being sulky - hence the nickname Le Sulk - as he forged a nomadic career across Europe and then to China and India.
In the 2010 World Cup, he was kicked out of the France squad after calling then manager Raymond Domenech a "son of a w****" and not long after that, he was widely criticised and then sacked by West Brom - his club at the time - for a controversial "quenelle" goal celebration. The "quenelle" gesture has been associated with antisemitism.
In a new documentary for French TV, his former World Cup-winning France team-mate Lilian Thuram hit out at the behaviour of France players at the 2010 World Cup regarding the strike that took place after Anelka's exclusion, stating that the "jersey should be respected".
Clearly, Thuram's opinions did not go down well with Anelka who took to Facebook and tried to draw comparisons between his team-mate and Samuel L Jackson's character in Quentin Tarantino's Hollywood hit Django Unchained.
He attached a caption in both English and French, seemingly implying that Thuram and the character - a slave that was unpleasant to other slaves in the movie - were similar in the way they act.
However, Thuram has forged a reputation for being outspoken on issues surrounding racism and society since he retired as a player.
