Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been charged with breaching code of conduct rules and has been fined €14,500 for his behaviour at the Shanghai Masters yesterday.
The 21-year-old made headlines after showing disinterest in his third round match Mischa Zverev, failing to put in much effort during his serves or returns, with the game finishing 6-3, 6-1 in favour of his opponent.
The Association of Tennis Professionals said he received the maximum fine of $10,000 for exhibiting a "lack of best efforts" in the match.
He also was hit with a $5,000 fine for the verbal abuse of a spectator and a $1,500 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct.
In a statement the association said: "The ATP has announced that Nick Kyrgios has been fined a total of US$16,500 for breaches of the ATP code of conduct during his second round match against Mischa Zverev at the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Wednesday.
"After completion of the on-site investigation, Kygrios received an on-site maximum fins of USD$10,000 for Lack of Best Efforts as well as a US$5,000 fine for Verbal Abuse of a Spectator, and a US$1,500 fine for Unsportsmanlike Conduct."
