Newcastle have appointed Joe Kinnear as the club's new director of football. 

The former manager has signed a three year deal. 

Kinnear will report "directly to the club's board as the senior executive of all football related matters". 

The statement released by the club also says first team boss Alan Pardew will have to report to him.
