The British film will be shown on FilmFour, be made available on video-on-demand, DVD and Blu-Ray and also screened in selected cinemas from later today. It will be one of the first films to test such a distribution model in Ireland and the UK. In the US, Steven Soderbergh's Bubble was released in a similar 'day-and-date' manner back in 2005.
As well as the film itself, a selection of the making-of documentaries and 'masterclasses' included with the DVD & Blu-Ray releases will be made available on the film's website.
A Field in England is directed by Ben Wheatley, who has previously directed cult hits Kill List and Sightseers. The cast includes Northern Ireland actor Michael Smiley and Julian Barratt of The Mighty Boosh. The black & white film follows a group of soldiers in the English civil-war who become trapped in a remote field. The film's distributors are also hoping to later host special 'field screenings'.
