World No 3 Rafael Nadal has suffered a shock defeat at the Qatar Open tennis.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner was beaten in a deciding set by German qualifier Michael Berrer, who is ranked 127 in the world.

Nadal is on the comeback trail after appendicitis, which followed a wrist injury.

The Spanish star is building towards the Australian Open which begins on January 19th.

Nadal has won that tournament just once, in 2009.
