Andy Murray's described the scheduling that saw him start the defence of his US Open title last night as "not ideal".

The third seed and his opponent Michael Llodra were the last players to get on court in the first round.

The match started just before 10pm.

Murray won 6-2 6-4 6-3 and faces Argentina's Leonardo Mayer in the second round.

Laura Robson is through to the third round after beating Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.

The teenager won 6-4 7-6 and next plays Li Na.
