Sulley Muntari has won an appeal against the one match ban he was given after being sent off following a protest against racist abuse.

The former Portsmouth and Sunderland midfielder was booked while playing in a match for Italian club Pescara after walking off the pitch after he had made complaints regarding racist abuse.

He was then given a second yellow card, leading to his suspension.

The decision to impose a ban had been controversial and had been met with criticism.

Former footballer and anti-racism campaigner Garth Crooks had called for a strike by players in Italy until the ban imposed on Muntari was overturned.

Charity Kick It Out had also voiced strong criticism of the decision to ban the Ghanaian.
