David Moyes answered his airborne critics with a 4-1 win at home to Aston Villa. The United manager emerged from the tunnel to applause from the Old Trafford crowd showing that despite the presence of a banner flying high above Old Trafford calling for Moyes’s sacking, there is still significant support in the fanbase for the Scot.

The game got off to a poor start for United, with Ashely Westwood scoring with a free kick after 13 minutes.

It was just 7 minutes before Wayne Rooney levelled the game, and the striker put United ahead with a penalty on the stroke of half-time.

Christian Benteke was guilty of missing a couple of glaring chances early in the second half, before Juan Mata put the game beyond doubt with his first goal for United.

Javier Hernandez, a second half sub, added gloss to the result in stoppage time with United’s fourth.
