Jose Mourinho gave a furious review of referee Chris Foy’s performance in yesterday’s Premeir League tie between Chelsea and Aston Villa, during which Foy sent off 2 Chelsea players and the Chelsea manager.

Willian and Ramires were both sent off as Chelsea fell to a 1-0 defeat.

"We must be very, very unlucky to have another refereeing performance like this one," Mourinho told The BBC.

"This is not about one mistake from a referee. This is about a performance from minute one to minute 94."

While Willian’s red card was harsh – a second yellow for a clumsy rather than cynical challenge – Ramires caused a minor brawl between players and staff as he lunged into Karim El Ahmadi with a two footed stamp. Mourinho was incensed with the decision to dismiss his player and was himself sent off for his overly forceful reaction towards Foy.

Mourinho got involved in a situation between Gabriel Agbonlahor, when the Villa player – who had already been substituted – went onto the pitch to remonstrate with Ramires over his tackle on El Ahmadi.

"I don't know why I was sent off," Mourinho said. "I asked, but the referee refused to speak to me.

"Gabriel Agbonlahor was on the bench, he jumped onto the pitch, he was aggressive towards Ramires. Then everyone jumps onto the pitch: me, Paul Lambert and my assistants, lots of people there.

"There are no statues in a football match, so if I was sent off, everyone should have been sent off. This is not about convention, this is about common sense."

There were reports that after the game Mourinho and John terry had attempted to force their way into the referee’s room, but the Chelsea manager denied this at the post-match press conference.

"In the dressing rooms I tried to ask politely, can you give me five seconds? And he refused," said Mourinho.
