On the day the World Cup kicks off, protests have continued in the city of Sao Paulo where violent clashes have seen police use tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters.

That is the city hosting the opening ceremony and tonight's opening game. ESPN and The Examiner writer Miguel Delaney has been there today and tonight he touched base with us to explain what is happening on the ground.

"I didn't see any of the trouble but you could definitely notice an increased police presence, much more at every metro station. I think it was always wishful thinking that it would pass. Saying that, there is a proper World Cup vibe around here now," said Miguel, who spoke about the bunting around parts of the city and fans thronging the area around the Sao Paulo stadium.

Miguel was at Brazil's press conference and noticed how Luiz Felipe Scolari and Neymar "radiated" such confidence that Brazil's case appears very persuading.

He also predicted a win over Croatia.
