Irish actor Michael Fassbender has been nominated for a BAFTA for his role in the movie '12 years a slave'.

The Killarney native is nominated alongside Bradley Cooper and Matt Damon.

Meanwhile the Stephen Frears movie about the life of Limerick woman Philomena Lee is nominated in the Best Film category.

Nominations were announced at a ceremony in London a short time ago.

Gravity has secured the most nominations - it's up for 11 awards.

There were 10 nods each for 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle.
