When the last Premier League season began, the focus was not so much about the new players arriving in the top flight but the fact that high profile coaches were in charge of the leading clubs.

Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino were all going head to head - and that's not including other managers like Ronald Koeman at Everton.

Conte and Guardiola in particular are viewed as part of a new breed of elite tacticians that will revolutionize the Premier League.

It's a far cry from the dawn of the Premier League back in 1992 when 4-4-2 abounded and the long ball was not viewed with suspicion.

The evolution from those more rudimentary days to the current day is charted in a new book by leading football tactics writer Michael Cox called The Mixer: The Story of Premier League Tactics From Route One to False Nines.
