Lionel Messi might have made the headlines this week for a headbutt on Roma defender Mapou Yanga Mbiwa.

But it seems the Barcelona No 10 does not have much of an ego.

His new team-mate Arda Turan, who signed from Atletico Madrid during the summer (although he cannot play for Barca until January because of their transfer ban) has revealed that Messi offered to give him his iconic shirt number. 

Speaking to Catalan sports daily Sport, the Turkey international said: "When I got into the Turkish national team, I was wearing the number 14, because my father is a fan of Cruyff, but my shirt number is not too important to me. I will decide in January. Messi told me: 'If you want the 10, it's yours.'"
