If you're a youth team player don't call Alex Ferguson by his first name. Paul McShane who started his career for the Reds, made that mistake, and fortunately for him, lived to tell the tale.
Speaking to Joe Molloy from an emotional Old Trafford where he was a co-commentator for Newstalk Sport alongside Adam Summerton at Fergie's last home game in charge, the Ireland defender praised the outgong Man United boss and shared the wee anecdote:
"In my first week I was walking down a corridor and he was walking by me. I said "Mornin'Alex to him". I'd come over from Ireland and I didn't realize you had to call him gaffer or boss. He goes "Did I go to school with you?...Well it's gaffer to you, so!"
McShane also discussed how good Paul Scholes was in training and the situation with Wayne Rooney that saw the England striker dropped from the squad for the Swansea.
